Company History
Berke Homes is led by Michael Berke, a second generation home builder who continues the company legacy. Since his entrance into the business in 1989, Michael has been responsible for creating some of the finest residential properties on the North Shore and Chicago area. Growing up in a homebuilding family has given Michael a unique perspective of the business and
industry. Since he was young he has learned about the business and began walking the homes with his father at an early age. With substantial business and construction management experience as well as a masters degree in finance, Michael is enthusiastic about the company's future. In 2007 he received his "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" (LEED Accredited Professional) designation with an emphasis on "New Construction and Major Renovations" from the US Green Building Council in Washington D.C. He is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, and is a committee member of the Green Building Council of Chicago - Residential Division. Michael also had the honor of serving as President of the Highland Park Hospital Foundation Jr. Board, and is a Board Member of The American Commitee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Sheldon Berke started in the home building business in 1957 after being approached by investor groups to design homes. It was the fact that he found homes lacking in architectural design that originated his entry into the business. This proved to be such a successful venture and rewarding experience that he began designing and building his own homes. He soon found himself designing and building houses throughout the entire North Shore community. He was an innovator in the building and development of many North Shore Communities and its landscape can be directly attributed to his hard work, dedication and expertise.
